The phone rang about 2:30 am on September 9, 2021. I was in the hospital dealing with the effects of covid. Any of you who have spent time in the hospital know that nights don’t seem to be very quiet or restful sometimes, so I was not in a deep sleep. I answered to hear my wife, Jessica, give me news no one ever wants to deal with when they are expecting. She had not felt our Charles move for a while and was having some other complications. Neither one of us really had any hope this would be something we would end up getting good news about.
That night took a journey of joy expecting our first son, our “surprise” baby. Our two daughters are old enough to have been so excited to be helpful, nurturing, and probably overbearing sisters. We had even begun to relax and believe our boy would be safe as we had made it to twenty weeks. This journey turned to one of devastation and loss like no other Jess or I had ever dealt with.
As we have been traveling this journey for almost two years, we have discussed starting this blog as a healing and coping outlet for us to express thoughts, emotions, reactions, and wins along the way. We also would like to be a support and encouragement to others dealing with their own loss. It has helped us immensely crossing paths with others dealing with loss, just knowing we are not isolated going through loss on our own.
This blog is going to be and avenue for us to retell our story, share our emotions and struggles, share our growth and wins, and express thoughts we have experienced in our own journey of grief. We want to share and encourage others who are on a journey no one ever desires to take. Let’s walk together as we learn to take every step with grief.
